File Submission Guidelines

Image format: We recommend saving images as PSD, JPG, TIFF or EPS. If the image needs to include Pantone colours, PSD must be used.

Colour space: Images are usually first processed in RGB colour space — it's best to submit them that way and let our system convert them to CMYK automatically.

Image resolution

It's best to submit images for printing at 300 dpi where possible, though lower resolutions can work — we've seen images as low as 150 dpi come out reasonably well in print. We don't recommend taking that risk unless necessary.

Keep in mind that scanned images are more sensitive to lower resolution.

Ink coverage

If images are submitted in CMYK, we recommend keeping the combined four-colour ink coverage below 320%.

Black-and-white images

Images that will print black-and-white in a single colour should be saved as Grayscale — never as RGB or CMYK.

Vector artwork and text

Colour in vector artwork and text should be in CMYK. RGB is allowed for vector artwork and text, but never for black or white.

Fonts

We recommend using Open Type, True Type or Type 1 (PostScript) fonts — these are the most reliable and least likely to cause font substitution issues.

If your job isn't submitted as a PDF, please include all fonts used in it when sending it to us, to avoid text flowing incorrectly.

Bleed

All images and backgrounds that extend to the trim edge must bleed at least 3 mm beyond the finished trimmed size of the job.

Black backgrounds

When printing large black areas, we recommend mixing in additional colours for a richer finish and deeper black.
